Somerville Preservation Awards and the Tina DeLellis Luncheon

Five things to know and do in Somerville on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013.

1) Nominate Homes for the Somerville Preservation Awards
Nominations are open for the Somerville Preservation Awards. The awards honor restoration work to homes and and properties in Somerville. According to an announcement from the city, "eligible projects include, but are not limited to, removal of inappropriate siding materials, repair or restoration of damaged or missing architectural details, removal of enclosed porches or inappropriate windows, repainting with historic colors, and additions that are 'historically sympathetic.'" 2) Mary Louise Daly Honored by Somerville Homeless Coalition
Mary Louise Daly, an organizer of the Clarendon Hill Tenants Association who also served on the boards of the Citizen's Housing and Planning Association and the Somerville Affordable Housing Trust Fund, was honored at the Somerville Homeless Coalition's annual Tina DeLellis Luncheon. The luncheon, held Oct. 25 at Highland Kitchen, is held in memory of DeLellis, the owner (with her husband) of Johnny D's in Davis Square, who passed away in 2008.

3) Somerville Toastmasters Open House
Toastmasters teaches people public-speaking and leadership skills, and it meets every Tuesday in Somerville. Today, attend an open house to learn more about the organization. It's at 7 p.m. at Unity Church, 6 Williams St., near Union Square.

4) City Election
As you'll see elsewhere, today is the city election. Remember to vote.

5) Weather
