National Poetry Slam, Teen Open Mic Night and Not Your Average Cause

Five things to know and do in Somerville on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.

1) National Poetry Slam, Night 1
The poetry competition kicks of tonight at locations in Somerville and Cambridge.

2) Growing Somerville Voices: Teen Open Mic Night
Teen Empowerment, the Somerville Growing Center and Books of Hope are organizing the open mic night, which begins at 5 p.m. at The Growing Center, 22 Vinal Ave.

3) Not Your Average Cause
Not Your Average Joe's in Medford is supporting Lincoln Tech's Somerville Scholarship today. If you eat at the Medford branch of the restaurant and give them the Lincoln Tech "Not Your Average Cause" certificate, which you can find in the photos section above and print out, the restaurant will donate proceeds to the scholarship.

4) Eat at Flatbread Somerville and Support Actors' Shakespeare Project
It's the Actors' Shakespeare Project's 10th season, and you can support the Somerville-based group by eating pizza tonight at Flatbread Pizza at Sacco's Bowl Haven.

5) Weather
