Liquor Licenses Around Boston and 'Odysseo' Extends its Run

Five things to know and do in and around Somerville on Wednesday, Aug. 14. Also, Chilean eats, and fresh summer produce with the Somerville Garden Club.

1) Liquor License Hearing in Boston
Somerville Mayor joseph Curtatone and others will testify at a public hearing in Boston about a home rule petition proposed by Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley to uncap liquor licenses in that city, according to an announcement from Pressley's office. Somerville has proposed a similar home rule petition in the past. A recent editorial and opinion article in the Boston Globe argued that strict liquor license caps prevent city neighborhoods and communities from revitalizing themselves. The public hearing will be at Boston City Hall at 2 p.m., the announcement says.

2) Nibble Cooking Class: Chilean Eats with Eduardo Lagos
Santiago Chef Eduardo Lagos will teach you how to make empanadas, ensalada chilena and mote con huesillo, all Chilean classics. The class is at 6:30 p.m. at Kitchen, Inc., 201 Somerville Ave. See if tickets are still available here.

3) Gardener's Bounty at the Somerville Garden Club
You may get the opportunity to sample fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs from garden club members at this month's meeting. It's at 7 p.m. at the Tufts Administration Building, 167 Holland St.
