Ghost Stories and an Opening Reception

Five things to know and do in and around Somerville on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.

1) Opening Reception: EARTH Effects
Artists from Finland, Israel and the United States are part of this exhibit about Mother Earth. The opening reception is tonight at the Nave Gallery, 155 Powderhouse Boulevard, at 7:30 p.m.

2) "Ghosts of Cambridge: Haunts of Harvard Square and Beyond"
Somerville resident Sam Baltrusis, author of "Ghosts of Cambridge: Haunts of Harvard Square and Beyond," will be at the Somerville Public Library tonight at 7 p.m. to read from his book and talk about ghosts that roam the area, including one in Somerville Theatre.

3) Raising Money with Jeans
CPCU Credit Union in September raised $1,500 for Boston Children's Hospital through the Miracle Jeans Day initiative. As part of the initiative, CPCU Credit Union workers got to wear jeans on Fridays in exchange for a donation, according to an email from the bank.

4) Somerville Board of Aldermen
The Board of Aldermen meets tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

5) Weather
