Beer-Label Art and the Secrets of Flavor

Five things to know and do in and around Somerville on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.

1) BRANDED: The Art of the Beer Label
This exhibit features beer-label art, and it opens tonight at the Nave Gallery Annex, 53 Chester St., in Davis Square, at 6 p.m.

2) Somerville Resident Performs With New Rep
Somerville resident Robert Pemberton will appear in the new play, "Rancho Mirage," by Steven Dietz, that opens at the New Repertory Theatre in Watertown on Saturday, Oct. 12. You can get tickets at newrep.org.

3) Somerville Residents in Susan G. Komen Walk
Mackenzie Richardson, Meghan Richardson, Jim Roller, Charlene O'Neil and Frank McSorley were among those who participated in the Sept. 29 Annual Komen Massachusetts Race for the Cure. This year marked the 21st Race for the Cure, which raises money for breast cancer causes.

4) "A Taste of Molecules: In Search of the Secrets of Flavor"
Here's what the listing says: "Do men and women experience taste and smell differently? And what happens when you eat a meal completely in the dark?" Former Wall Street Journal reporter Diane Fresquez spent a year tracking down answers about flavors. She's at True Grounds Coffee House, 717 Broadway in Ball Square, at 3 p.m.
