America's First Sports Hero Author Talk, Trust Act Event at State House

Five things to know and do in and around Somerville on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013.

1) America's First Million Dollar Athlete
Christopher Klein, author of Strong Boy: The Life and Times of John L. Sullivan, America’s First Sports Hero, will be at the Somerville Public Library tonight to discuss his book, which tells the story of the Boston Irish man who became the first athlete in America to earn more than a million dollars. The talk is at 7 p.m. at the library, and there will be refreshments.

2) Trust Act Event at State House
Somerville State Rep. Carl Sciortino and Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone will speak at an event today in support of the Trust Act, which "would set a clear, minimum standard for local governments in Massachusetts to not submit to burdensome requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain people for deportation who have otherwise been ordered released by the courts," according to a press release from Sciortino's office. The event is at 11 a.m. in the Senate Reading Room, room 200, at the State House.

3) Ward 5 ResiStat Meeting
The Ward 5 ResiStat meeting is tonight at 7 p.m. at the John F. Kennedy Elementary School cafeteria, 5 Cherry St.

4) Lord Geoffrey Presents Dan Bui and Friends
Dan Bui, a mandolinist from Austin, Texas, and a recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music, will perform at Inman Square's Outpost, 186 Hampshire St., at 8 p.m.

5) Weather
