The Winter Solstice in Legend and Song

Third Life Studio, 33 Union Sq, Somerville, MA | Get Directions »
$15.00

ABOUT:

Celebrate the Winter Solstice with classic evergreen lore, haunting legends of light and entertaining tales surrounded by traditional and original music and song. Featured stories include the beautiful “Legend of the Mistletoe” from Scandinavia, humorous English Wassail traditions, and the poignant Greek legend “The Halcyon Days of Peace.”

Master storyteller Diane Edgecomb accompanied by Celtic harper Margot Chamberlain and multi-instrumentalist Tom Megan offers a fascinating look at the stories behind our holiday traditions. Songs evocative of the season and lovely instrumental melodies round out the event.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

As the cold and the dark approaches, we're preparing for our annual Story and Music celebration of The Winter Solstice ~ the time of the longest nights. We have spent years of research and care to bring these pieces to light. Their purpose is profound ~ to tune us to this moment in time. The messages in these legends and songs come from the many cultures that have wrestled to find the inner meaning of a hovering darkness dispelled by the return of light. Please join us on our annual pilgrimage to re-kindle the sun with ancient myth, music and merriment! Diane Edgecomb LIVING MYTH EVENTS www.livingmyth.com
