The Big Thrifty is an annual one-day bargain-hunting fat clothing event happening at Unity Somerville in Somerville, MA on Saturday, May 4th, 2013!!!DescriptionLove a good deal? Want to freshen up your wardrobe on the cheap? Like the thrill of digging through the racks at Goodwill but hate not finding anything in your size?

You are going to LOVE The Big Thrifty!

The Big Thrifty is a one-day annual bargain-hunting fat clothing event happening 12pm-5pm Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at Unity Somerville, 6 William St. (edging College Ave.), Davis Square, Somerville, MA, just three blocks from the Red Line T station.

*****Important Notes*****

PARKING: Last year, Somerville's Traffic & Parking Dept. relaxed enforcement for street spots marked "Resident/Permit Parking Only" around the venue. We all just had to be mindful to adhere to all other usual parking rules like meters, crosswalks, intersections, etc. We will be asking for this privilege again, and we'll keep you posted!
ACCESSIBILITY: There is a short set of stairs leading down into the space.
DONATIONS ACCEPTED AT THE EVENT: Just try to bring them early (from 12pm-2pm) so we can get them out on the floor for shoppers!
VOLUNTEERS WILL BE NEEDED! Email thebigthrifty@gmail.com. Free admission if you volunteer!
CASH ONLY: Hit up an ATM before you arrive!

Pay $5 at the door and head toward fat thrifting fun! There will be tables and racks and bins of clothing sizes XL and up sorted by size. Items will be priced cheaply and easily (example: all tops, $3ea.). There'll be a curtained-off area and mirrors for trying on clothes.

How can you help? First, help spread the word! Tell all your fine fat friends about the event, share the Facebook love, post on your Twitters and your Tumblrs, shout it from your rooftops! Second, donate clothing! (Details below!) And then, volunteer! We'll need volunteers to help us collect clothing, do advance sorting, set up and sort the night before the event, and help the day of the event. Volunteers will get free entry into the event, too!

Sponsors wanted! At the first Big Thrifty, we had some awesome sponsors and we'd love to work with them and other, new sponsors for 2013! Sponsors can help with advertising, or can donate supplies, or can contribute toward the event in a bunch of fun ways!

What kind of clothes will be there? Seriously, many of us have clothes in our dressers and closets and attics that we just don't wear. Maybe they are too big or too small, too bright or too dark, too serious or too silly for how we are dressing right now. The thing is, those clothes could be having awesome lives on someone else instead of gathering dust in the back of your closet! And by sending those unwanted clothes off to new homes, you'll be making room for new stuff that fits who you are right now! We already have bags of incredible donated clothes ranging from XL (14/16) to 5XL (30/32), all in good condition and ready to find new homes with fatshionistas who will love them. Yes, we are accepting men's clothing!

How can you donate? Bag up your clean, in-good-condition XL+ clothing in clean trash bags. If you are local-ish to Somerville, MA and can drop off your clothes, contact us and we'll give you an address. We are offering some pick-ups for bigger donations of clothes in the Arlington/Boston/Cambridge/Somerville-area. The more donations we have in advance, the more organized we'll be at the event! Email us at thebigthrifty@gmail.com to arrange a drop-off or pick-up! And, yes, we'll be accepting some clothing donations the day of the event itself.

Who will this benefit? Besides all the shoppers reaping the rewards of fashion scores at thrift-tacular prices, we'll be selecting a charity. After the May 2012 Big Thrifty, we sent $4,000+ to NOLOSE (www.nolose.org).
