DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the opening of a new exhibition at the Brickbottom
Artists Association. The exhibit will be open to the public from March 1
 0 through April 7\, Thursday through Saturday\, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.&n
bsp\;\nFrom the Brickbottom Artists Association:&nbsp\;\nIn this exhibit
\, wood sculptor David Crane and fiber artist Margot Stage (www.margotst
age.com) push their individual boundaries while expanding their approach
es to usual materials. Borrowing from each other's chosen medium\, this
husband and wife team are full of surprises.\nCrane typically creates wo
od assemblages from cast-offs of mill work and found objects. For this e
xhibit\, he uses wood in ways that reference fiber -- bending and interl
acing thin strips of cypress and walnut to create airy\, open forms. Sus
pended\, these forms sway and circulate in the slightest breeze.\nStage
departs from usual 2-D work with fabric to create sculpture with fibrous
materials. Using the linings from silk neckties\, she has strung multip
le whites\, beiges and tans into a series of hanging sensual shapes.&nbs
p\;\nTogether\, Stage and Crane collaborate on Wear the World Like a Loo
se Garment (above). Yards and yards of crocheted strings are interwoven
with thin strips of wood\, covering a wall and window in a variegation o
f circles\, curves and loops.\nIn the spirit of collaboration\, Brickbot
tom residents and other gallery visitors are invited to participate in m
aking an installation around the gallery's central column. This on-going
creation will be documented weekly as more and more people add their pe
 rsonal contribution.\n &nbsp\;
