PONG is an adventurous documentary-style film by Nepali directors Shambhu Rayamajhi and Pradip Kumal that features the mysterious Chepang people of Nepal. Inhabiting the mountainous forest regions, the Chepang have little contact with modern civilization. PONG follows an action-packed story that portrays the extreme difficulty of Chepang life tempered with the joys of being part of a close community. The Nepali filmmakers gained extraordinary access to the Chepang and were able to document rare glimpses of the traditions and rituals of this remote culture. Don’t miss this opportunity to preview this very special film in Somerville, MA.
“PONG will appeal to anyone interested in state-of-the-art Nepali cinema. The production team write their own rulebook with daredevil camera work, hyper-editing and by casting the indigenous Chepang people as themselves in a story that takes place deep within the foothills of the Himalayas.” - Gordon Nelson, curator
