------------------------------------------------------------Opensound is a monthly concert series that explores improvised and experimental music, bringing artists from disparate backgrounds together for unique events in Somerville MA. The process of improvisation combines the distinctive voices of its individual performers. The music that results is often surprising, unconventional and dynamic. It s not uncommon to hear music made of electronic crackles, noisy multi-phonics, gurgling, hissing, quiet vocalized gibberish, atonal noodling, bowed metal, blowing sounds, post-everything harmony, and a thousand shades of hullabaloo.
You may also see video and dance cohabitating with buzzes, clicks, drones, wooshes, and bleeps in a bizarre galaxy of pitch and spectra!

------------------------------------------------------------Some Bios
The music of saxophonist and composer Jorrit Dijkstra draws from the jazz tradition in spirit and sound, but has crossed stylistic and cultural borders in order to express a strong, evolving personal vision.  He spent his formative years in Amsterdam’s vibrant improvisation community playing jazz, free improvisation, and world music.  Since moving to the United States in 2002, Dijkstra has deepened his affinity with the experimental forces of American music, while staying in touch with his Dutch musical roots. http://www.jorritdijkstra.com/index.html

Andrew Neumann is a Boston-based artist who works in a variety of media, including sculpture, electronic/interactive, and film and video installation.  http://www.adneumann.com/ad.html

The work of digital media artist Greg Kowalski focuses on live video projections and the creation of digital images. He has projected for numerous sound artists often using a system of his own design called the "lightbox" which allows him to create visuals using movement, objects and light. This ability to create images through performance is essential to his concept of live projection.  http://www.gregorykowalski.com/ (http://www.gregorykowalski.com/)

Ellen Band
creates sound and music pieces for performance and concert settings, installation, sculpture, and tape. Deeply inspired by the infinitely complex textures, rhythms, and colours within the so-called ordinary sounds of everyday life, she uses the time-honoured technique of field recording to collect the source material she uses for her pieces. She then fashions works which reflect the imagistic, mnemonic (memory), and psychoacoustic properties of sound. Having a strong background in both the 20th Century experimental music and sound art traditions, she crafts sound works which transform familiar sounds into new contexts and forms for listening to, perceiving, and experiencing sound. http://www.ellenband.com/
