Kids Parkour Classes (6 - 13yrs)
Parkour, also known as l'art du déplacement or freerunning, was born in the banlieues (suburbs) of Paris in the 1990s and has become one of the world’s fastest growing sports. While often recognized from the fantastic images seen on YouTube, movies, or television, the sport/discipline/art form is actually a form of movement that has roots in a wide variety of physical disciplines including gymnastics, martial arts, climbing, and athletics. Practitioners, known as traceurs, train to develop strength, speed, endurance, precision, spatial awareness, dynamism, and creativity, in order to be as fluid, functional and liberated as possible in physical movement and to overcome physical obstacles. Traceurs also develop a way of thinking based on rigorous self-discipline, autonomous action and self-will that allows them to overcome mental obstacles related to their movements.
Classes are open to kids of all fitness and parkour experience levels (Beginners welcome!) but classes will focus on the basic techniques of parkour including vaulting, climbing, and jumping while maintaining a fun and challenging atmosphere. Classes will also include a number of exercises to improve strength and fitness levels which ensure the safe long-term practice of the sport. For a glimpse of what to expect, check out this video from some of the Parkour Generations classes in London!

Parkour Generations & Parkour Generations Americas
Parkour Generations was founded in 2006 with the goal of spreading the training and instruction of parkour/freerunning/l’art de déplacement while preserving the philosophy of the discipline as practiced by the original French founders. Since its creation, Parkour Generations has grown to become the world’s leading parkour instruction company and teaches in a variety of mediums across the globe in addition to working with conceptual and architectural consulting, live demonstrations, education and research projects, media work and artistic representations.
Parkour Generations Americas (PKGen Americas) was created as a subsidiary company of Parkour Generations to spread the philosophy and practice of parkour on the American continents with the same standard of excellence and commitment to the founder’s true spirit and philosophy. PkGen Americas also seeks through the teaching of parkour to show how movement, and the holistic and functional use of the body, can be made a central part of a healthy lifestyle.

More About Central Hill Park
With all the buildings that sit beside it, it's easy to overlook Central Hill Park. But this stretch of land on Highland Ave. that runs from the library, past the high school and on to City Hall is not just any green space. Laid out in 1876, Central Hill Park is one the city's two oldest parks (Foss Park was dedicated the same year). Walk its few shaded pathways and you can almost imagine our Victorian forebears strolling along on a Sunday with their top hats and parasols.
Today, it covers over 8 acres including the shaded plaza in front of the library, a playground next door and several grassy expanses. A number of memorials also stand on the grounds: the Civil War Memorial to the Union, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the George Dilboy Memorial, the America Legion Memorial, The Somerville Honor Role memorial to WWII veterans, the Philippine Insurrection and China Relief Memorial, and The Unitarian Church Memorial.
