SCALE (Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences)
SCALE is a public school for adults, offering classes in the English language, adult basic education and GED programs. Founded in 1972 as an extension of the Somerville Public School systems, all classes are free. While one does not need to be a Somerville resident to become a student, residents are favored first.
The school is located on the bottom floor of the Tufts Administration Building and just four blocks from the Davis Square MBTA station.
Students above the age of 18 are given a placement test in math and English to assess their current skill level and are then assigned to the appropriate class. The center also has a GED program for students aged 16 to 18 who have officially dropped out of high school.
