Flipper is a 2-year-old neutered Welsh Corgi mix. He is energetic and loves to play with other dogs. He is very friendly with people in the kennel and on walks. Flipper would do best in a home without small children because he doesn’t like to share his food or toys. Flipper is one unique guy. He has a funny gait that will make you smile all day long, after all he was named Flipper for a reason. Don't pass up the opportunity to make Flipper a part of your family! For more information on Flipper or any of the other animals currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please contact…
Snowy is an absolute sweetheart. At 8 years old, Snowy has been moved around a lot, so she is a bit on the shy side but warms right up when you give her affection. When people open her cage to visit, she jumps right up to give them head nudges on their hands. Snowy would do best in a quiet home where she will be doted on with plenty of love. She lived with another cat in her previous home and would probably do well with another mellow cat. She has already been spayed, and is ready to go to her final home today. You don’t want to miss out on this pretty lady! For more information on Snowy or …
Brownie is an active and fun-loving 2-year-old mixed breed. She loves to play with other dogs during our morning playgroup and would likely do well living with another playful dog. This girl has a lot of energy to burn, and is looking for a home with an active family. She is very smart and loves to cuddle. Brownie would benefit greatly from attending a basic obedience class to help work on her manners. She is already walking better with the help of a gentle leader. Brownie loves to chase birds and squirrels so would probably do best in a home without cats or small critters. This lady has a …
Lily Mae is a sweetheart of a cat with a gentle and mellow personality. She is a 2-year old spayed female and is at the shelter due to landlord restrictions of her previous home. She loves to have her back and shoulders scratched, and also loves to be brushed. She would be a great fit for a quiet home, and would best be described as a "couch potato" girl. She is a darling companion who does not need a lot of action and attention to be happy. Give her a soft bed and she's good to go, and she’ll never turn down a crunch cat treat! For more information on Lily Mae or any of the other animals …
Bette Midler is a very cute 6-year-old spayed female cat. This young lady found herself in the shelter due to her previous family’s allergies. Her independent nature makes her a great companion for any cat lover who may work long hours, as she is quite content to nap all day and find her own sources of entertainment. But when you are home she’ll cuddle up on the couch, or if you’re up for it, a feather wand toy would make her day. Bette Midler likes to be in the spotlight and wants to be an "only child." Bette Midler does not enjoy the company of other animals. If you are willing to be Bette …
Nala is a fluffy, quiet 7-year-old Chow Chow who was brought to the shelter due to having a new baby in the home. She can be very shy at first but does approach when her new friend is patient and supportive. She enjoys the company of other low-key dogs. Though she isn't overly playful, she does have bursts of puppy-like energy. Despite her shyness, her best command is "come!" She enjoys walks and shows interest in squirrels and other small animals. Grooming is a must for this fluffy good-natured lady! Nala is just the right mix of “get-up-and-go” when outside and laziness when inside. It …
Ron Weasley is a happy-go-lucky 2-year-old, neutered ferret that was found as a stray in Braintree. He is litterbox trained and very friendly with everyone he meets. He is very treat-motivated and willing to learn tricks, just like you would teach a dog! Hans is a very smart rabbit that is looking for a rabbit savvy home. Once he knows you, he’ll happily sit in your lap for pets. Could he be your next carrot-loving pal? Come meet him today! Please note that in order to adopt Hans, you will want to bring a picture of the cage he …
Meet Coco. Coco is an independent, 5-year-old pit bull mix who was found as a stray in Franklin County. He enjoys playing with other large dogs, though he does prefer the ladies to the males here in our playgroup. Coco has high prey drive, so he should not go home with small dogs, cats or other small critters. He walks nicely on an easy walk harness, knows some of his basic commands and seems to be housebroken. He is a laid back guy looking for a couch of his own. If you're looking for a handsome pittie to add to your family, Coco is definitely your guy! For more information on Coco or any of…
Meet Gulliver. Gulliver is a 12-year-old neutered male Labrador Retriever. Don't let his age fool you, Gulliver still has plenty of energy! He loves going to playgroup with other dogs, and would likely enjoy a canine companion to keep him company. Gulliver keeps his kennel clean here, but could use a bit of work on his manners (he likes to jump a bit). Stop by and meet this handsome fella and you're sure to fall in love! For more information on Gulliver or any of the other animals currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please contact us at 617-226-5602. The Animal Rescue …
Meet Matilda. Matilda is a sweet and mellow two-year-old spayed female cat who was found in Charlestown with her kittens. She went to fostercare while her kittens were nursing, and now all of her kittens have since been adopted. It's now Matilda's turn to find a home of her very own. She is very shy, so is looking for a quiet home that is willing to open their doors to a cautiously sweet feline. Matilda is patiently waiting for her perfect family. Could that be you? For more information on Matilda or any of the other animals currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please …
Ed. note: Pet of the Week is provided to Somerville Patch by the Animal Rescue League of Boston. You may have missed the column over the past couple of months. That's because the Animal Rescue League was incredibly busy handling animal adoptions, and it was also a little understaffed, so it took a brief hiatus from this column. We look forward to seeing more pets in the upcoming weeks. Wiley is a handsome and very sweet two-year-old neutered male American bulldog mix who was brought to the Animal Rescue League due to landlord restrictions. He is such a happy boy with a smile on his face all …
Meet Ellie. Ellie is a quiet and sweet 3-year-old spayed female cat. Her story starts out a little sad, for she was abandoned in a carrier outside the shelter. Despite this, she loves the attention of people and would love to find her forever home. Ellie is looking for a calm home, where she can explore, play, and look out the windows. She’s unlikely to be a lap cat, but would definitely consider sprawling out on the couch next to you. She has a loud purr and super soft fur, so you should definitely consider adopting her! For more information on Ellie or any of the other animals currently …
Meet Diamond, a beautiful pit bull mix that is just over a year old. She gets very excited for walks and playtime, and loves to release her energy by going for a run or playing with other dogs. Afterward, she takes a nice long nap.  She is a smart dog; she already knows how to sit and could probably learn just about anything as long as there is food involved. Her new home would definitely have to provide her with an environment where she can exercise often throughout the day. She has lived with children before and would do best in a home with older kids, since she does love to jump around …

Meet Tucker. Tucker is a very sweet and affectionate 4-year-old neutered male tricolor treeing walker hound mix that was transferred to the Animal Rescue League of Boston from another shelter. Tucker would do best in a single-family home (not an apartment of condo), for he likes to show his admiration for the people he loves with a loud enthusiastic bark. Though he does well with other dogs, he prefers the company of quiet dogs and even more so of humans. Tucker can be fearful of new situations and would do best in a home with older children. He truly is a great dog looking for a family to …
Meet Whiskers. Whiskers is a very unusual looking, sweet and quiet 13-year-young neutered male cat. He is a black tabby mackerel, also known as a "black smoke," which is super rare. Whiskers has been through a lot of changes lately. After his owner went into a nursing home, he was placed in a new home. However, he didn't get along with the other animals there, so now this gentle boy is looking for his forever home once and for all. Whiskers is a little bit shy here at the shelter, but after a few minutes of petting, he'll close his eyes and relax. He would love a quiet home where he can relax…
Meet Zoe. She is a cute 10-year-old female miniature poodle mix. She found her way to the shelter because her previous owner was moving. Zoe has lived with cats in her previous home and goes out to playgroup with the other small dogs here at the shelter. She is shy at first but warms up quickly. Zoe would do best in a quiet home and prefers the company of adults as opposed to children. For more information on Zoe or any of the other animals currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please contact us at 617-226-5602. The Animal Rescue League of Boston is open Tuesday through …
Meet Betsy. Betsy is a super sweet and friendly 2-year-old spayed female cat who was left behind when her owners moved away. Like many other cats, Betsy doesn’t like to have her tail or her back scratched, but face-to-face rubs and head scratches are greatly appreciated. She purrs and chirps and will even give kisses when she is happy. She prefers to be an only cat, and would love a windowsill to watch the world go by. For more information on Betsy or any of the other animals currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please contact us at 617-226-5602. The Animal Rescue League …
