The Water Chestnuts are winning!

Volunteers with or without boats are needed this Saturday, August 4, 2012 to help stop the spread of the invasive Water Chestnuts along the Mystic River. This year has been unlike any other year in recent memory.

It is becoming almost impossible for boats to go under the Cradock Bridge on Main Street in Medford due to the rapid spread of the invasive Water Chestnut.

Maury Carroll, owner of Carroll's Restaurant located on the Mystic River in Medford, said "They have grown so much in the last couple of months, it is a serious health hazard and huge mosquitos are breeding there."

This Saturday, the Mystic River Watershed Association along with several other organizations are conducting the, "Water Chestnut Removal Program."
