The next MusicalConversations program will be held at the Somerville Council on Aging (167 Holland St) on Thurday, Aug. 30th at 11:45AM.
People say that music is the international language. But what does it say? Does it speak with a loud voice or a whisper? We will explore how the voice of music is used to bring people together. We will learn about Playing For Change (http://www.playingforchange.com/), Musicians Without Borders (http://www.musicianswithoutborders.org/) and other organizations that use music to bring people together.
Does music or to be more precise, sound, speak loudly or with a whisper? We will talk about our everyday soundscape, for example, the sound of breathing is quite soft at 10 decibels, laughter is 60 to 65 decibels, trains and garbage trucks measure at 100 decibels and a jet taking off is the same as a band practicing measuring at 120 decibels. We will become aware of the sounds of our communities.
I look forward too see you on Aug 30th at 11:45AM.
