Eye Doctor Appointments

Why do eye doctors schedule several people for the same day and time, and why do we put up with it?

I once had an eye exam appointment scheduled for 1:00 P.M. and even though I got there 10 minutes early, I was 9th in line. After a 90 minute wait, I finally met with an assistant who dilated my eyes. About 15 minutes later, I heard someone say that the doctor was on his way to the clinic. With all of these people still ahead of me, I got up and walked home. What arrogance these people have! They think they are the only ones whose time is valuable.

You don't see that happening (pun intended) with any other medical specialty.

Been that way for many years. At the least the 50 or so I have been going to them. Because of eye problems I have gone to many doctors and hospitals and only on a rare occasion have I ever got out in 1 hour. Worst was New England Medical, always 3 to 4 hours at least.

I now go to the New England Eye Associates--I go to their Mount Auburn Hospital office. I usually wait between 15 and 25 minutes. They also have a Chinatown office, but I have been to it.

Because they are specialists in the field of medicine and will always double up appointments in the event of no shows. It's become another corporate model for business.

Other specialists don't do that. There is simply no excuse for it. I never have to wait to see my ortho. specialist.

Every speciality does it. Orthopods are notorious for double- and triple-booking patients, it sounds like you've gotten lucky in that regard.

Eye doctors are different. They don't double-schedule--they schedule 20 or more appointments for the same time. It is outrageous. Now do you get the problem? Stop defending this.
