Winner: Best Ice Cream in Somerville

The winner is … J.P. Licks.

When Somerville Patch readers want a summer ice cream treat, they head to J.P. Licks in Davis Square.

We took into consideration votes, comments and reviews, and in the end, J.P. Licks was the favorite ice cream parlor for Somerville Patch readers.

The ice cream place, in the heart of Davis Square, offers homemade ice cream, frozen yogurt, frappes and other treats. It's one of 10 storefronts owned by the ice cream company throughout the Boston area.

As one reviewer wrote on Yelp, "If you want good ice cream and you are in Davis Square, this is the place to go to. Great selection of flavors and other options if you are feeling something else."

Louie's, on Lower Broadway in East Somerville, was a close runner up.

Congratulations J.P. Licks.

Are there any other ice cream shops in Somerville besides JP Licks and Louie's ? (Who else got votes?)

Richardson's ice cream sold at the Somerville Theater is great -- rich and creamy. The flavor variety is somewhat limited, but the Maine Black Bear and Moose Tracks are wonderful. The small size is quite large - 2 large scoups, enough to share. That makes the cost much lower than JP Licks across the street.
