Each week from now until the end of the year, we're running a shopping tip contest.

All you need to do is offer a shopping tip in the comment section below and we’ll pick a winner at random each week.

Shopping tips can include sales or deals on anything: from supermarket bargains to sales on holiday gift items. And although we hope to find out about sales at local small businesses, large chain store deals are fine too.

Each Friday, we’ll announce a new winner, as well as list all of the great deals that were submitted to help you with your shopping.

For this week’s contest, all entries must be received by noon on Thursday, Dec. 8 (Eastern Time). This week’s prize: A $25 gift certificate to the Foundry on Elm restaurant in Somerville.

Please note: This contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. You may enter as many times as you like. All winners will be selected in a random drawing. Click here for complete Official Rules.

(This contest and article are being shared on the following Patch sites: South End, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Charlestown, Somerville, Medford, and Malden.)

1. Shop Locally!
2. Clear the trunk before you head to the mall. Stop by the car to drop off bags, you'll appreciate being hands free and weight free as the shopping trip continues.

Go to restaurant.com and find gift certificates to many local restaurants at discounted rates from 50%-80% off regular price. It makes for a great gift this time of year or just a great way to treat yourself any time of the year.

If you didn't order a wreath through a church or the Boy Scouts, you can get a 12" double-sided wreath for $5.99 at Market Basket in Woburn. Don't know about their other stores.

I just discovered The Boston Shaker (http://www.thebostonshaker.com/) based in Somerville. I got my boyfriend the Bartender Kit for a Christmas gift. It's a great local business that's got everything cocktail-related for the novice or experienced "bartender" in your family!

Keep your eye on Groupon and similar web-based coupon sites. You can buy any of them as gift certificates for friends and family.

1. Check out couponcabin.com for promo codes or printable coupons for stores you plan on hitting up. I can always find a 15% off banana republic or gap (off your total, not one item!) and 20% on macy's or kohl's...

2. Check your credit card's website. A lot of cards offer gift certificates to big name stores at 10% off. If I know I'm going to buy presents at Crate & Barrel, Nordstrom, Gap... I always order a gift card to use. A 100 dollar gap card is 90 and then shave 15% off of the bill with the printable coupon you can always find online and boom - 100 bucks of Gap stuff for 76.50!
