Inauguration
Joseph Curtatone was sworn into his fifth consecutive term as mayor of Somerville, and on Monday he delivered an inaugural address. Members of the board of aldermen and school committee were also sworn in.
MBTA fare hikes and service cuts
The MBTA, facing a $161 million budget deficit in the next fiscal year—the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the T's fiscal problems—laid out two proposals to deal with the problem, both of which would cut service and raise fares for T riders. Under one of the proposals, Somerville could lose a number of bus lines.
MBTA offers advertising discount to Somerville businesses
In other MBTA news, the authority is offering an advertising discount to Somerville businesses to mitigate against weekend Red Line closures in Davis Square.
IKEA still undecided
It's one of the most common questions in Somerville: When is IKEA coming? And at the moment, the answer is still, "We don't know." The Swedish furniture company has not yet made a decision on whether or not to build in Somerville.
Pets of the week
Every Saturday, Somerville Patch posts a "pet of the week." On Friday, we took a look back at some former pets of the week and learned that many of them have been adopted.
Car takes out hydrant, parking meter
On Friday afternoon, a car ran off the road and took out a fire hydrant and parking meter in Davis Square. No one was injured.
BYOB in Somerville
