Nine people were displaced Tuesday after a fire on Heath Street in Winter Hill.

Schools react to Newtown shooting
In the wake of the Newtown school shooting, faculty and staff in Somerville's public schools reviewed safety procedures and protocols, but the school system did not increase security as some school districts, such as Medford's, did.

School Committee seeks new member
The Somerville School Committee announced it was seeking candidates to represent Ward 1—East Somerville—on the committee, and it will make a final decision by Feb. 4. The new member will replace Maureen Bastardi, who was appointed to the Somerville Board of Aldermen.

Suspicious car fire
The Somerville Fire Department was investigating a suspicious car fire that fully engulfed a car and spread to a shed in East Somerville Tuesday.
