"Intense" fire on Jaques Street displaces 10 people

Somerville firefighters battled an intense blaze on Jaques Street Monday evening. The fire destroyed a barn behind 37 Jaques St. and a residential building behind 35 Jaques St. The Red Cross reported that 10 people were displaced in the fire, and investigators believe an illegal apartment was among the dwellings affected. 

Man indicted for filming women in YMCA locker room

A Middlesex County grand jury indicted 24-year-old Ryan Perez, of Somerville, on charges of photographing unsuspecting nude women in the locker room of the YMCA. He's also accused of having child pornography on his cell phone.

Somerville teen named Huffington Post Greatest Person of the Day

Charlotte Schofield, a Somerville High School student, threw a Sweet 16 birthday party to benefit Boston Children's Hospital. For her work, Huffington Post named her Greatest Person of the Day on Thursday.

Davis Square gets new music venue

Davis Square Theatre, formerly Jimmy Tingle's Off-Broadway Theatre, will soon be a new live music venue, with a bar, the Boston Phoenix reported this week.

Lil Vinny's is closing

Lil Vinny's Ristorante in Magoun Square announced Wednesday that it was closing. After 11 years, it will close its doors after dinner tonight. Courtney O'Keefe, from Ward5Online, commented that a new "cool, retro restaurant" will be moving into the space in a few months.
