VIDEO: Are There Too Many Charity Solicitors in Davis Square?
Filming YSI videos had made it plain--the streets seem saturated with people vying for a moment of your time. Or, are we imagining things?

I agree with the gentleman in the video. I believe in the causes, and I donate to a lot of them already, but sheer desperation can make the solicitors a little pushier than I'd like. A woman who caught my attention at Park Street was so demanding, and so desperate, I wondered if she was running a scam.

These solicitors are a constant annoyance, and none of their organizations really have any local connection to Somerville or Davis Square, except for Amnesty International.

There were a few comments to the contrary and all I could think was 'you folks obviously don't walk between the theater and the bank.'

I've crossed streets or made unplanned turns to avoid them. Can't be good for the local businesses.

:) I'm totally in that first post discussion - it's a small {Somerville} world :)

Definitely made me avoid certain businesses. I wonder sometime, how much did "Save the children" lose in annual giving since they put these people out on the streets? Can't be good for the public image.
