Toy Story 3, Senegal and Global Food
Plus, a networking event at Redbones
Toy Story 3
Watch a movie outdoors. Tonight, at Seven Hills Park in Davis Square, Toy Story 3 will be the feature film. In round three of the Toy Story series, the toys must find their way home after someone drops them off at a day-care center. The film starts at 8:30 p.m.
We Are the World
Elias Estabrook, former Somerville Patch Whiz Kid of the Week, is heading to Senegal for a year of service abroad before he goes to college. Tonight, he's hosting a fundraiser for the organization that's sending him, Global Citizens Year. There will be musical performances and ethnic food. The event takes place at 31 Thurston St., and there's a recommended donation of $10 to $15. RSVP to elias.estabrook@gmail.com.
On a related note, Estabrook will be blogging about his experience in Senegal for Somerville Patch, and the first installment of his blog should be coming soon.
Ethnic Food Market Tour
If you just can't get away to Senegal for a year of service, at least you can try some food from around the world right here in Union Square. Tonight from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Union Square Main Streets will show you where you can find some hard-to-find ethnic ingredients. It will also be an opportunity to trade recipes, pointers and cooking secrets. Email artsuniontour@gmail.com to reserve a spot.
Business After Hours at Redbones
Redbones, in Davis Square, is the place to be this week. First there was the 10th annual "pig pickin', and tonight the Somerville Chamber of Commerce is hosting a casual meeting for members of the business community and others. There's a slight catch, the date for répondez-ing s'il vous please (that's RSVP to those of us who sprechen el French) was Aug. 2. Let's point out two things: First, anyone can go to Redbones. Second, business is about making things possible. Anyway, the event starts tonight at 5 p.m.
Weather and Red Sox
Today is supposed to be partly sunny with a high of near 74. Nice. The Sox finish up their series against the Indians tonight. And then, this weekend, the Yankees are in town for what's bound to be an important series.
