Tortilla Pizza: Delicious Snack for a Hungry Super Bowl Crowd

Superbowl party or your child's 5th birthday, this easy recipe can take you far, all in less than 15 minutes.

You know a perfect pair when you see one: Salt and pepper. Tom and Jerry.  Somerville and snow emergency. Superbowl and pizza.

Making your own pizza does not have to be a time-consuming, complicated affair.  You can make these crunchy mini-pizzas in just about 15 minutes, customize each and use only what’s easily available in your local grocery store.

I made a classic cheese and pepperoni version, but the variations on this are endless. Instead of tomato sauce you can use BBQ sauce (great with chicken), pesto sauce (amazing with seafood or prosciutto) or even creamy alfredo sauce (great with shrimp and red pepper). The method pretty much stays the same, and you can top them with whatever your little heart desires: pineapple, sausage, grilled peppers, caramelized onions, pulled pork–anything goes.

  • A packet of flour tortillas
  • The sauce of your choice: tomato, BBQ, pesto, alfredo, etc.
  • Cheese: mozzarella is mild enough to go well with just about any sauce
  • Toppings: go for easy toppings that you like from pepperoni or sausage to chicken, shrimp, and veggies (get them at the salad bar to really save time)

Tortilla Pizzas:  Five Easy Steps to Delicious

  1. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees
  2. Brush flour tortillas with olive oil on both sides
  3. Spread a layer of sauce (tomato, BBQ, pesto or another  sauce of your choice)
  4. Sprinkle the cheese (mozzarella goes well with most sauces) and arrange your toppings
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are crisp and the cheese is bubbly. Keep an eye on them the final few minutes to be sure the edges don’t burn.

Serve right away--with a cold beer--and enjoy!
