Today: The Culture Wars on Stage, and Viva La Vinal

1) Beaver: Frontline of the Culture Wars
From The Boston Tease Party, the same guys who staged The Slutcracker, comes a new staged performance about the Culture Wars that is destined to delight or offend, depending on your worldview. The performance is tonight at 8 p.m. at Somerville Theatre. There's another performance Saturday at the same place and time.
2) Viva La Vinal Festival
"An eclectic mix of local talent featuring folk, indie rock, and singer-songwriters," according to the website, the sixth annual Viva La Vinal Festival is tonight at the Somerville Community Growing Center. Families and children are welcome. The garden opens at 5:30 p.m. and the music starts at 6 p.m.
3) Donating cell phones to a domestic violence shelter
Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone will be in Union Square today to donate more than 100 forfeited cell phones to RESPOND, a domestic violence shelter based in Union Square.
According to a press release, "The donation to the shelter utilizes a Florida-based recycling program in which non profit domestic violence organizations exchange inoperable cell phones for funds that can be used to purchase pre-paid phone cards as well as food cards and prescription cards, providing vehicles which help prevent survivors from returning to an abusive situation out of need to provide life-sustaining items for their families."
The event is today at 11 a.m. at RESPOND, 66-70 Union Square.
4) Mark your calendars: Tour de Somerville
The Tour de Somerville bicycle ride will take place Oct. 15, and this year's theme is "Arts in the 'Ville." Bikers will meet at 10 a.m. at Seven Hills Park and then proceed on a grand tour of arts locations in the city. Stops will include Mudflat, Artisans Asylum, Fringe, the Washington Street Art Center and a bunch of artists studios.
