This Weekend in Somerville: 'SomerVinyl Pallooza' and Story Slam

Massmouth's story slam semi-finals takes place Saturday at 2 p.m. at Rosebud Bar & Grill in Davis Square. Story topics include "Labels," "Whacked," "Homegrown," "Holiday Madness," "Aliens," "Fire," "Cherry-Poppin," "On the T," "Crush," and "Never Again." Check out video of some of the stories here.
More than a dozen artists from around the country present "poster print illustrations inspired by their favorite nursery rhymes from childhood." It's at the Nave Gallery on Friday (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.). The opening reception is Friday.
The Great Fiber Swap and Wrap Around 2013 Kick Off
The 2013 Wrap Around Project, which benefits the Somerville Homeless Coalition, kicks off Saturday. As part of the project, participants create cloth goods for sale, and there are also fiber-art exhibits throughout the year. Saturday's kickoff gives people the chance to swap thread, yarn, fabric and other things that will help with this year's effort. It's at 1 p.m. at the Nave Gallery.
Vocalist Suzanne Cabot and pianist and composer Pamela Hines perform jazz and blues from the American canon. It's at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Center for Arts at the Armory.
Free Teen Creataive Writing Program
Somerville writers Ethan Gilsdorf and Becky Tuch will run this writing program for teens between the ages of 13 and 17. It will be offered one Sunday per month for four months, and the first session is Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Somerville Public Library. Advanced registration is requested. Somerville Family Happy Hour
Kids and their families will enjoy arts, crafts, songs and some time to run around. The happy hour begins Sunday at 3 p.m. at The Center for Arts at the Armory. Tickets are $5 per person (no more than $20 per family), and proceeds benefit the Armory.
