Things to Do in Somerville This Weekend
Swimming outside in January, "noise/experimental" art, Renaissance music, antiquing and more.
Join the Mystic River Watershed Association for its first ever Polar Plunge. The January plunge into chilly waters is meant to promote recreational uses of the Mystic River, and it also helps celebrate the organization's 40th birthday. It takes place Saturday at 1 p.m. at Constitution Beach, Coleridge Street, East Boston. Weather's looking to be partly sunny with temperatures in the upper 40s, not exactly balmy, but not as cold as it could be. Pre-registration is recommended.
As always, head over to the Center for Arts at the Armory Saturday for the winter farmers market. It's also a great time to hear live music, grab some lunch and run into neighbors. The market runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Described as, at its essence, beautiful women taking their clothes off to music, "Unlucky in Love" is the latest burlesque performance by the Boston Babydolls. It's running through Valentine's Day at the Davis Square Theatre.
Mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal and El Dorado Enseble will perform early Renaissance music from England at the Somerville Museum. The performance is Sunday at 3 p.m.
Do some bargain hunting for antiques and collectibles at this flea market. It's at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Center for Arts at the Armory.
