The Paddock Restaurant Closes

The restaurant closed Friday.

The Paddock Restaurant, on Pearl Street—behind Somerville High School and City Hall—has closed, according to its Facebook page.

In a Facebook post from July 25, the restaurant wrote:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATRONAGE THROUGH THE PAST 4 1/2 YEARS. Please note that Friday, July 27, 2012, will be our last day at The Paddock Restaurant. Anyone interested in leasing the space/purchasing the business should call 617-492-9900.

Michael DaCova, the longtime chef who bought the restaurant in 2008, posted on Facebook that he wanted to "thank everyone for their patronage through my years at The Paddock Restaurant. As of Friday night, July 27, 2012, I will be hanging up my Paddock chef jacket and moving on to a new chapter in my life."

The Paddock was recently nominated as one of Somerville's best family restaurants by Patch readers.

The Paddock had one of the best Pizza's anywhere. The Calamari Siciliano was to die for. To Michael, Colleen, Natty, Joe (from my old place, Giuseppi's Kitchen), and the rest of the crew, good luck in all your endeavors and may God Bless all of you!

We had stopped going there before this owner because of the bad service. I didn't know it changed again or I might have gone back. It's a tough business. Wasn't the owner of Kelly's Diner a past owner of this place?

Under the previous management they had the best bacon pizza in town. So after it changed hands in 2008 I went in and ordered one. Even a child knows that uncooked bacon is 2/3 fat and so must be cooked and drained before eaten, but not the new owner- he put raw bacon on the pizza so that when the pizza was served, each piece was sitting in a pool of fat - disgusting! I left and never went back. Good riddance!

Talk about pouring salt on a wound. One bad experience shouldn't lead to never returning. You should have some compassion or empathy for the people that poured their blood, sweat, tears, and entire life savings into trying to make something of an already failing restaurant. The reputation was bad enough to start out with.................

As a neighbor and frequent patron, I'm sad to see them close their doors. Thanks to Natty and Stephanie for your service and love.

I'm really sad to see the Paddock go. It's been a great neighborhood joint for years. Thank you for those good times!
