Teele Square Fire Site Goes on the Market
The former commercial building held five storefronts. It's now on the market with a call for offers.
A plot of land in Teele Square that was the site of a serious fire in October is up for sale.
The parcel, currently a hole in the ground, is on the market without an asking price. Interested buyers will make their offers by April 3, according to a listing for the property on Redfin, a real estate site.
Griffin Properties, with offices near Davis Square and in Harvard Square and Kendall Square, is handling the sale. Somerville Patch left a message with Griffin Properties but did not hear back by the time of this posting.
The 0.29-acre parcel, in the heart of Teele Square, is in a neighborhood business district, which means it could be developed into a mixed-use structure with residential and commercial space, the Redfin listing says.
The former building, which was demolished following the October fire, was home to a cleaners, a nail salon, an Asian restaurant, an Italian specialty food store and the Somerville Police West Somerville substation.
Due to its size and central location, whatever is built at the site has the potential to help define the Teele Square neighborhood.

Did the fire department ever determine how this fire started?

They declared the cause was accidental but "undetermined," I think because the damage was so severe. Here's some more: http://somerville.patch.com/articles/october-fire-in-teele-square-deemed-accidental
