T.W. Food Owners Opening Restaurant in Union Square's Ronnarong Space
Tim and Bronwyn Wiechmann, from T.W. Food in Cambridge, are planning to open a restaurant, featuring new American cuisine and local ingredients, sometime in the fall.
The duo behind T.W. Food, a highly rated restaurant in Cambridge's Huron Village, are planning to open a new eatery in the space currently occupied by Ronnarong Thai Tapas in Union Square.
Tim and Bronwyn Wiechmann appeared before the Somerville Licensing Commission Monday night to secure a liquor license for the new restaurant. The commission approved the transfer of the liquor license from Cafe Belo, which is facing bankruptcy, according to proceedings at the commission meeting.
Speaking after their appearance at the meeting, Tim Wiechmann said the new restaurant will feature New American cuisine with a "European cultural influence."
The Wiechmanns' current restaurant, T.W. Food, was named one of the five best French restaurants in the Boston area by Zagat, serving "seasonal New-American-New French fare."
Tim Wiechmann said they're choosing to open in Union Square because "it's inviting" and it has "independent businesses" and "it's creative."
They said they're hoping to open in September or October, but noted the process of opening a restaurant often takes longer than planned.
In addition to permitting and construction, the state's Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission has to approve the liquor license transfer, which could take a few months.

"Tim Weichmann said they're choosing to open in Union Square because "it's inviting" and it has "independent businesses" and "it's creative."" This is not without irony.
"They said they're hoping to open in September or October, but noted the process of opening a restaurant often takes longer than planned."
Yes, I imagine so.
