'Super Hero Farmers Market' in Union Square Aug. 25

Local cartoonist Honolulu Dogfight designed the characters, and kids are encouraged to dress as superheroes.

Kids, you have two weeks to get your superhero costumes ready.

Somerville's popular Union Square Farmers Market is hosting a special "Super Hero Farmers Market" Aug. 25, according to Mimi Graney, executive director of Union Square Main Streets, which runs the market.

Somerville animator and cartoonist Honolulu Dogfight, a.k.a. George Pfromm II, according to the cartoonist's website, has created characters specially for the market.

Kids will dress as superheros, Graney explained in an email, because they'll be eating healthy foods from the farmers market.

Spinach gave Popeye super-human strength, but Somerville Patch finds that seasonal tomatoes topped with fresh mozzarella, a little olive oil and a sprinkling of sea salt also does the trick.
