Stop & Shop Makes $5k Donation to Peabody House Food Pantry
The Peabody House Food Pantry will use the greatly needed funds to purchase more fresh produce and refrigerated items, which will provide healthy food options for area low-income families.

On Friday, Super Stop & Shop presented a sizable donation of $4,900 to the Elizabeth Peabody House Community Food Pantry. Assistant Store Manager AnneMarie Sullivan of Stop & Shop proudly presented the check to the Peabody House’s Executive Director Selvin Chambers, and food pantry coordinator Paul Kuhne this past Friday, March 4, in front of the East Somerville Stop & Shop. The check will be essential in helping the Peabody House provide emergency food relief to more than 600 families from Somerville over the course of 2011.
Founded 115 years ago, the Peabody House has traditionally offered programs oriented toward childcare, including a preschool, infant-toddler center, after-school programs and summer enrichment camp. However, tough economic conditions have put a strain on both the families served by the Peabody House and residents of Somerville, which sparked the creation of the Peabody House Community Food Pantry.
The pantry began as a pilot project in September 2009 and opened to the public three months later.
“We currently provide more than 175 Somerville families per month with food relief and a sense of comfort in this tough economic climate,” commented Paul Kuhne, the pantry’s coordinator. Kuhne plans on using the donation to purchase a greater array of fresh produce and refrigerated items so families can have increased access to healthy options.
The food pantry currently receives food from the Greater Boston Food Bank, Food for Free and individual charitable donations. It is currently striving to secure funding from Project Bread to continue its operations over the next year.
“Ultimately, it is with the steadfast support of community-minded corporations like Stop & Shop that we are able to provide such an important service to those in need of food relief,” said Chambers.

Just found that "123 Get Samples" is promoting a wide variety of major brands by providing free samples. You’ll have to fill in your zip code to see if you can qualify to receive them. You can get all samples from one place. I think it is available for most of the zip codes and it worked for me.
