UPDATE: Curtatone Defeats Mayor of Melrose in WFNX Song Battle
Rob Dolan, mayor of Melrose, was the seven-time champ of the radio song battle. Somerville's mayor, Joseph Curtatone, is the new champ.
Update, 9:50 a.m. Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone unseated seven-time "Battle of the Mayors" champion Rob Dolan, of Melrose. As the new champion, Curtatone will return to WFNX in a week to take on a new challenger.
Curtatone selected "Going out in Style," by the Dropkick Murphys, and his song prevailed.
Dolan chose "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys.
-------
Tune in to WFNX (101.7 FM) this morning at 9 a.m. to hear Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone take on Melrose Mayor Rob Dolan in the radio station's "My Song is Better than Your Song Contest."
What's more, Somerville is lobbying hard for your vote.
As part of the competition, each mayor will pick a song, and he'll have 30 seconds to convince listeners his song is the best.
The radio station will then play the chosen songs, and listeners will decide their favorite by calling, texting or casting votes on Facebook.
The city of Somerville, on Facebook, said Curtatone has chosen a "gobsmacking good song" and that Dolan will pick a "sad little tune."
Them's fighting' words, especially given the competition. Dolan is the reigning champ of previous battles on WFNX, having previously beaten multiple opponents.
Still, Melrose beating Somerville? In a cool song competition? Is that even possible?
If you don't want the city to be embarrassed, we recommend casting a vote.
To vote:
- Call (781) 595-WFNX (9369)
- Text the word WFNX and your choice to 22122
- Vote on the WFNX Facebook page.

I think the staff of the mayor should be working not using the tax payers money to use city electronic devices sending out emails and phone textes to department heads telling there workers to take co. time to vote for something as foolish as a song on the radio. This is why this city is in the shape its in win at all cost no matter what the issue,be a good facist and do what her curtatone says if you want to keep your job
