Somerville Sees Two Rollover Accidents in Less than 24 Hours

Two rollovers resulted in two injuries, according to the Somerville Fire Department.

The Somerville Fire Department responded to a rollover accident Friday morning at the intersection of Medford and Thurston streets, according to an email from Deputy Chief Charles Breen.

The accident happened at around 10:08 a.m., and the driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Breen said.

The story gets a bit crazy. According to the The Somerville News, the car flipped over after crashing into an unmarked police cruiser belonging to an officer working a detail in the area.

It was the second rollover accident in less than 24 hours, according to Breen. At around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, a car flipped over at 80 Webster Ave., resulting in one injury, Breen said in the email.

I don't imagine speed was an issue.

Nice touch with the speed limit sign in the background.

With zero traffic enforcement and idiots racing through these narrow streets in oversized vehicles, this is no surprise. I can't drive halfway across the city without having to deal with dangerous, aggressive drivers at least once per trip.

Speed wasn't a factor in either case. It's more so the conditions of the road. They are too narrow to have cars parked and have traffic moving safely along any residential road.

30 mph on our narrow residential streets is way too high; we need to lower the speed limit on residential side streets to 20 or 25 mph, depending on the street's width and whether it's straight or not. It doesn't make sense that people can legally drive down a street like Mass. Ave. AND my small side street at 30 mph.

Posted speeds mean little or nothing. Many just drive at whatever speed they want. I am on the road around the city all day and it is amazing what speeds some go at. As for a rollover I can't imagine one could happen going at a slow speed. Only seen ones at high speed.

How about the person passed out at the wheel so that's why he hit the cruiser in the first place.. A little more info would have been nice for this article

Did the people who got into the accidents have a Mass license?
