About 9000 people, including 11 Somerville residents (as of late August), are participating in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on Sept. 9, according to an announcement from walk organizers.

The walk traces the entire 26.2-mile route of the Boston Marathon.

The event is designed to raise money—the goal is $7.5 million—for cancer research and patient care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

People can register for the walk until the day of the event, support a walker or volunteer by visiting www.JimmyFundWalk.org.
