Somerville Officials to Urge Teens: Don't Text and Drive

Rep. Michael Capuano, Mayor Joseph Curtatone and other officials will join AT&T at Somerville High School for a presentation against texting and driving.

An array of Somerville officials will be at Monday morning for a presentation about the dangers of texting and driving, according to an announcement from Somerville Public Schools.

The event, presented in partnership with AT&T, is called "It Can Wait." It will feature a 10-minute video called "The Last Text" that features true stories of people whose lives have been "impacted by distracted driving as a result of texting," the announcement says.

Rep. Michael Capuano, Mayor Joseph Curtatone and Schools Superintendant Tony Pierantozzi will make some opening remarks before the video, according to the announcement.

Tony Ciccariello, headmaster of the high school; Deputy Chief Mike Cabral of the Somerville Police Department; state Rep. Timothy Toomey; state Rep. Denise Provost; Michael Sullivan, clerk of courts for Middlesex County; and David Mancuso of AT&T will also be at the presentation, the announcement says.

The "It Can Wait" presentation starts at 9 a.m. at the Somerville High School auditorium.
