Somerville Gets Green Communities Funding, and It's Tree Season
Plus, restaurant deals along East Broadway, and the Warrior-Bunny premiers tonight.
1) Somerville gets $362,175 in Green Communities funding
The state's Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs announced Monday that Somerville would receive $362,175 in Green Communities funding. The money will be used to install energy-efficient street lights in Union Square, Davis Square and along the Community Path, according to an announcement. Also, Somerville will use the funds to implement an energy management system at the high school and retrofit two of the fire department's hybrid vehicles to extend their range.
In related news, the city of Somerville is asking residents to report streetlights that aren't working properly.
2) You can order your Christmas tree online, if you want
For some people, especially young people, shopping for a Christmas tree—going to the tree lot, selecting a tree that's the perfect size and shape, tying it to the top of a car and bringing it home—is an exciting experience, one of the highlights of the year. But if you can't make it to the tree lot or haul a tree into your home, city-trees.com will bring a tree directly to your door and even set it up in the living room for you. The company delivers in Somerville, and the trees come from New Hampshire. Somerville Patch does not vouch for the company.
3) Tree lighting on Thursday
Speaking of trees, Somerville will hold its annual Christmas tree ceremony on Thursday on the city hall concourse. Santa Claus will make an appearance, and there will be music from the Somerville High School Band, the Somerville High School Chorus, the Somerville Community Chorus and local opera singer Lara Kahn.
Also, the annual trolley tour of lights in Somerville takes place on Dec. 17.
4) Two for Tuesdays and "The Way of the Warrior-Bunny"
Head over to East Broadway later today, starting at 4 p.m., for some "Two for Tuesdays" restaurant deals. And don't forget, "The Way of the Warrior Bunny" premiers tonight at the Somerville Theatre at 7 p.m.
5) Weather
There's a chance of showers, mostly in the afternoon, and highs will be in the mid 60s.
