Somerville Featured on CBS Evening News

CBS Evening News featured Somerville Mayor Joesph Curtatone and the city's "happiness survey" in its evening report Sunday.

With shots of Davis Square, the Community Path and the Davis Square Farmers Market, among other things, the footage on CBS Evening News looked awfully familiar Sunday night.

In a segment called "Sunday Cover with Russ Mitchell," the news network featured Somerville, highlighting the city's so-called "happiness survey."

The piece featured an interview with Somerville mayor Joseph Curtatone and man-on-the-street interviews with a few Somerville residents.

It touched briefly upon Somerville's old "Slumerville" reputation, the city's dense population and its history.

It listed the city's unemployment rate of 5.8 percent as one reason Somerville residents, overall, reported being mostly happy.

I enjoyed watching this, but Somerville had both curbside recycling and the Community Path long before Mayor Joe took office in 2004.
