Somerville Dominates Globe's 'Best of the New' Food List

Only Boston had more restaurants on the list than Somerville.

 

By our count, 11 new restaurants made it onto the Boston Globe Magazine's "Best of the New: Food" list. In Cambridge, 9 new restaurants made it onto the list.

In fact, of all the communities represented in the Boston Globe Magazine's article, Boston was the only city with more restaurants on the list—27—than Somerville. And Boston is, like, way bigger than Somerville.

Perhaps 2012 will be seen as the year the culinary center of gravity north of the Charles River shifted into Somerville. In addition to having tons of "best of the new" restaurants, Somerville is enticing some of Cambridge's well known chefs across the border: Brownyn and a new restaurant by Oleana's chef and owner, Ana Sortun, are expected to open in the upcoming year.
