The Somerville Arts Council is introducing a new "Artist of the Month" series in 2013, according to an announcement from the arts organization.

Each month the Arts Council will feature a different "creative Somervillian." The program will highlight a variety of artists, from painters to poets, song writers and more, according to the announcement.

The first artist of the month will be announced on Jan. 7, and each month the Arts Council will interview the winning artist and feature his or her work on its website.

In December of 2013, the Arts Council will host a public reception to honor all 12 artists featured during the year, the announcement says.
