Show Us Your Pink Pride in Somerville
Show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by uploading photos of your and/or your family and friends supporting the cause.
Showing off your pink pride during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a favorite thing to do with survivors and supporters alike.
Thousands of hats, shirts, and other pink breast cancer items are sold in October. Millions of tiny pink ribbons are worn to support the cure for breast cancer and hope for many women.
Also, countless numbers of people show support of Breast Cancer Awareness by participating in fundraising events. Have you strapped on your pink running shoes for the Komen Race for the Cure? If a walk is more your speed, how about the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure? Have you joined a local support group? Joined efforts with other supporters to hold a fundraiser or night out?
We want you to tell us your story in the comments below. How do you participate and show your pink pride in the community?
Don't forget to print out the image of the attached Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon to show your support! Post it in the window of your home or on a community bulletin board around town.

I did both the Boston Komen Race for the Cure 5K run and the the Philly Komen 3 Day/60 mile walk this year. This is the 3rd year I've done both events. I do these events with my team "Men With Heart". A little about my incredible team: Men with Heart (MWH) is a Boston based group of men, who are considered to be the Boy Scouts of the breast cancer walks. We have to raise all the money for each walk and walk all those miles, just like everyone else. The difference is MWH members do the walk with heavy backpacks carrying supplies that anyone on the walk might need. We carry items like sun screen, bug spray, band-aids, tampons, duct tape, wet wipes, foot powder, vaseline and lots and lots of candy. The other thing MWH members do differently is at the end of our walk each day; we DON'T go back and take a shower and eat. Instead we form a line near the finish and welcome back each and every walker with applause, congratulations and high-fives. MWH members do not cross the finish line until every other walker has finished for the day. It is those walkers who take the longest to cross the finish line, who most need our encouragement. This means many MWH members stand at the finish 4-5 hours after we finish our own walks. The reward is the look on the walker's faces when they see us waiting for them as they struggle toward the finish. I have not stood at the finish, without my eyes tearing up a couple of times each day. It is an extremely emotional and rewarding experience.
