Quick Look: Davis Square's New Skateboarding Shop, Maximum Hesh
The shop sells environmentally friendly boards to skaters of all levels.
Update, July 25: This article was updated to note The Dairy Bar is still around. It's moved next door to the Kickass Cupcakes storefront at 378 Highland Ave.

In mid June Todd Brugman opened Maximum Hesh, a skateboarding shop on Highland Avenue in the Davis Square storefront perviously occupied by The Dairy Bar at Kickass Cupcakes. (378A Highland Ave.)
Brugman, a Somerville resident, said his business is a "family friendly skate shop for people just starting out and [also] for core skaters."
He pointed to the number of skateboarders in the area, and said he hopes to "encourage kids to do something fun," noting that skateboarding is an inexpensive sport.
Maximum Hesh is also environmentally conscious, Brugman said. Among other things, he only sells boards that are pressed together with vegan glue, and he only uses water-based inks for things like posters and signs at the store.
It's a "straight-up core skateboarding shop that's welcoming for everyone," he said of the store.
Check out Maximum Hesh's website here.
Also, don't fret: The Dairy Bar is still around, it's just moved next door to the Kickass Cupcakes space (378 Highland Ave.)

I visited the shop yesterday after trying out the new restaurant, M3. Todd was very nice as were the young skateboarders at the store. It seems as if there are very few official skateboarding sites in Somerville and we could use more.
