Protesters to Rally at City Hall Tonight (Leia em Português)

Community organizers are planning a protest in response to a recent Somerville Zoning Board of Appeals decision. On Sept. 15, the board rejected a proposal to create housing for homeless families.
A flyer posted by representatives of the Somerville Community Corporation and the Somerville Homeless Coalition calls on residents to rally at City Hall tonight at 6 p.m. with sleeping bags and pillows "to show that everyone needs a place to sleep."
The rejected proposal asked that the former CASPAR Outpatient Addictions program building (at 162 Highland Ave.) be converted into six apartments for homeless families. The Board voted 3-2 for allowing the plan to continue, but the law requires a supermajority of four or more votes for this type of proposal. So the vote resulted in a rejection of the proposal.
The rally is organized by leaders at the Somerville Community Corporation and the Somerville Homeless Coalition. It will take place outside City Hall (93 Highland Ave.) on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
