The RAD System, which is also taught on many college and university campuses, is a comprehensive course for women that includes awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while also teaching the basics of hands-on defense training.  The Somerville-based course will be taught by certified RAD instructors and will provide each participant with a workbook/reference manual that outlines the entire program and provides information for continued personal development.  The Rape Aggression Defense System is dedicated to teaching women defense concepts and techniques that can be used against various types of assault.  The techniques are easy, effective and proven, giving women the knowledge they need not only to fight back but to make informed choices about when and how to resist.

“RAD training is a proven way to empower women to take an active role in their self-defense, and to improve confidence and psychological wellbeing,” said Chief Pasquarello, who also noted that class size would be limited and that women interested in participating should sign up as quickly as possible.

A similar program for men will be offered at a future date.
