The victim was taken to the hospital for head injuries and a possible broken rib, according to a police report.
A man suffered head injuries and possibly a broken rib after he was kicked off his bicycle and beaten with a cane, according to the victim's account detailed in a Somerville Police report.
The alleged beating took place Oct. 20 at around 9 p.m. near the intersection of McGrath Highway and Bonair Street, according to the report.
The victim told police that when he was riding his bicycle a man named "Sal," later identified as Salvatore Ferro, 44, of 20 Kennsington Ave., kicked the victim off his bike and continued to kick him once he was down.
The victim said another man, whom he couldn't identify, hit him in the head with a cane.
The victim was ultimately transported to Somerville Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Somerville detectives encountered "Sal" nearby at the corner of Garfield and Blakeley avenues, and he began to run down Kensington Avenue when he saw the unmarked police cruiser, the report says.
Police ultimately stopped and arrested Ferro. He was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon—a shod foot. Police confiscated his shoes as evidence, the report says.
