Police: Man Charged With Stealing Condo's Copper Gutter ... Again

A 45-year-old Everett man was arrested after ripping the copper gutter off a Norfolk Street condo complex, according to a police report.

Somerville police arrested an Everett man who allegedly ripped the copper gutters off a condo complex on Norfolk Street.

What's more, according to a police report the same man had been arrested about two years previously for stealing copper gutters from the same condo complex.

Police arrested David Bluteau, 45, on Jan. 22, and charged him with larceny from a building and destruction of property.

According to the report, someone called police at around 9:30 p.m. to say a man was trying to steal the copper gutters off 429 Nortfolk St. When police arrived they didn't find anyone, and the gutters were still there, the report says.

However, the description of the suspect and his clothing reminded the responding police officer of Bluteau, whom the officer had encountered a few hours earlier, according to the report. The officer had arrested Bluteau two years earlier for stealing copper gutters from the same building, the report says.

At about 10:05 p.m. police received another call from 429 Norfolk St. saying the same man was trying to steal the copper gutter again, according to the report.

When police arrived again they saw Bluteau, who was carrying a piece of gutter, the report says. It says Bluteau dropped the gutter and began to run, but police caught him as he ran toward Webster Avenue.

He had attempted to fold the gutter so he could carry it, and in doing so he broke it, the report says.

Please remember that allegations from police reports do not indicate a conviction.

reminds me: who stole the beautiful copper bust of Ty Cobb that once stood at the top of trum field? i know there are a lot good writers in town who like a good mystery.
there's a book here, or at least a good investigative story. does anybody out there have a picture of the bust? was it an inside job? was it another metal hunter? could a sports artifact collector have ordered the theft? does the statue sit in a mansion today? or in a grimey cellar of a petty thief? was it sold on amazon, or the like?

maybe this newspaper could write about its history, post a picture of the bust and launch a thousand sleuths. could be fun.
