Crowds of kids and parents gathered on the City Hall Concourse Thursday for the annual tree lighting and visit from Santa Claus.

The Somerville Community Chorus, Somerville High School Chorus and Somerville High School Band entertained the crowd as it waited for Santa to arrive on a fire truck.

After the tree lighting, Santa gave out gifts at the Somerville High School Highlander Cafe.

One glitch: For first time ever, Somerville had set up a Hanukkah menorah on the concourse to be lit along with the Christmas tree. For some reason, the menorah didn't light. After the ceremony, Jackie Rossetti, a spokesperson for the city, said the glitch would be fixed immediately.

Here are some photos.

Of course it didn't light -- it's two days too early!

That's what I thought at first, but apparently it was meant to light up on Thursday along with the tree.
