A group of teens met with Somerville's four newest police officers, who started work in the city in November, fresh from the Academy.
The meeting was designed to break down barriers and stereotypes that often keep teens and police officers at odds with each other.
The "dialogue session" included one-on-one conversations.
It also included group exercises.
In a statement, Somerville Police Chief Thomas Pasquarello said of the meeting, "We always talk about community policing in the abstract ... This is a great first step for new officers to experience working in the community."

Somerville teenagers and four of the Somerville Police Department's newest officers met Tuesday for a "discussion session."

Organized by the police department and Somerville's Teen Empowerment, the session was designed to let the two groups, often at odds, get to know each other and break down stereotypes.

Teen Empowerment sent some photos of the meeting, and here they are.
