On Jan. 30, three cats were displaced, along with six people, when a fire struck the second floor of a residential building in Union Square. The fire caused heavy smoke, and at least one of the cats was rescued when a firefighter searched the home.

Now, the fire department has new equipment to help dogs, cats and other animals who are the victims of smokey fires.

According to an announcement from the Somerville Fire Department, the Bulger Veterinary Hospital, from North Andover, donated five "O2 Fur Life" oxygen mask kits to the department.

Each kit has three sizes of masks to use on all sorts of different animals. According to this video, each kit also includes a bag where firefighters can place flailing cats who don't want a mask on their face.
